WHY I CHOSE CHANGI AIRPORT

As an aviation, structures, and nanoblock fan, I like combining the three aspects into one model that I make. The reason I chose Singapore Changi Airport was because of its popularity, not only has it won many awards, but also has greatly planned terminals. Its swimming pools, cinemas, gardens, and other leisure centres make the airport well known as well. The terminals 1, 2, and 3 are connected in a U-shaped airport, with under-construction terminal 4, and a planned terminal 5. Other future expansions include the 'Project Jewel' into replacing a car park area into a shopping centre and a garden.

THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

I first set out to plan the airport through pictures and diagrams, drawing out a very basic 3D diagram with labels of coloured parts. To construct a very detailed model, I had to look through many pictures and sources into drawing out an accurate plan. One of the most challenging parts was to keep in mind the pieces were limited and objects had to look like a real one. For instance, an aircraft on the tarmac had to be made of only 6 1X1 blocks, or the planes would be relatively larger than the airport building itself. I tried many times to construct a model commercial airliner that would be small, the final outcome was a very basic but suitable and recognisable models of commercial aircrafts on the tarmac. However, constructing the terminals itself was not as complicated as trying methods of aircraft and terminal ratios.

FINAL TOUCHES TO THE MODEL

When I had completed the aircraft and terminals, I was originally planning to make runways for the airport, but later on decided not to as it was not necessary as the terminals were the main focused area of my model. I put on lights and a control tower, as well as some small trees to make the airport seem 'greener' and containing a bit more 'nature' inside it. The control tower was very basic, a tall and round tower with a large yellow light on top, as you can see in the pictures, the terminal lights are red while the tarmac lights are yellow. In addition, there is also a Changi Airport Skytrain connecting between terminal 2 and 3 in the pictures. Only in some pictures will you see the words 'Changi Airport' on it as I only decided to add that in the end. Once again, thank you for reading and enjoy some of the pictures below! :)
